Not a Vacation

I don't care what anyone says. I don't care that my friends say they have no sympathy for anyone complaining about being on vacation. I don't care that my parents tell me its a privilege and a bonus to go away all summer. I don't care. I don't believe them. They all say that going away for a whole summer is the best thing. Spending all that time away is a ton of fun and a great opportunity to relax.

The reality is, it's not. I get that you, reading this, are probably like "Spoiled white chick is so ungrateful and stupid." Point taken. But imagine going away for a whole summer, just you and your family in your little ancient cottage. You have been doing this for 7 years now, but still the kids you know in the area your age don't like you and make it well known you are not invited to their get togethers. Your real friends are all hours away, having a blast with each other, just assuming your having fun. You do have plans, sure. But everything you want to do, you want someone to do it with. When your friends are hours away, that's pretty hard to come by unless you like doing everything with your sisters who occasionally erupt in their annoyance with you and you all get in a huge cat-fight. So what do you do? You sit around marathoning TV shows on Netflix with a beach you have been to too many times with the same two siblings. Then your parents can't figure out why you don't go out and your friends assume you are having just as good if not better of a summer then they are. And you end up just going with it and counting down the days for school to start again.

So yeah, I get that your saying that I should be thankful that I have this "opportunity for a great summer" or whatever, but without the right people to spend it with, that's all it is. An opportunity. It sure has potential, but seen as neither your friends or your mother is willing to drive the 3 hours between you and your friends, its not a vacation. Vacation implies fun. Missing all the people who make you happy is not fun.
